Head of Finance and Controlling (m/f/d)

To strengthen our middle management team, we are seeking a Head of Finance and Controlling in fulltime or parttime (minimum 32 hours) to start immediately. 

In this role, you will have responsibility for finance, controlling, bookkeeping, EU-funded projects, invoicing, procurement, reporting, and grant and funding management. You will report directly to the Management Board. Initially, the role will focus on controlling. The current Accounting and Invoicing department is also planned to come under this management role in 2027. The department is currently being established and developed. We are looking for someone who will actively help shape and digitalise processes.

Your Mission

Controlling and Corporate Management
  • Preparing and monitoring annual budget planning, producing interim forecasts and medium-term planning.
  • Further development of controlling tools, key performance indicator systems and reporting processes.
  • Analysing financial, cost and performance indicators and deriving recommendations for action to guide the company’s management.
  • Sparring partner for management on economic and budgetary matters.
Accounting and Financial Statements
  • Point of contact for tax advisers, auditors, banks and tax authorities
  • Preparation of annual accounts
  • Management of accounts receivable and payable, and fixed asset accounting
  • GoBD-compliant accounting
  • Cash flow planning and organisation of payment transactions
Grant and Funding Management
  • Financial management of national and European funding projects, including budget control and reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with funding conditions, award regulations and regulatory requirements, as well as the proper use of funds and maintenance of supporting documentation.
  • Advising project managers on financial matters and supporting audits and inspections carried out by funding bodies.
 Reporting, digitalisation and processes
  • Preparing in-depth management reports and decision-making documentation for the Management Board, as well as further developing KPIs and controlling processes for all organisational units.
  • Advancing data-driven corporate management and the digitalisation of controlling, accounting and reporting processes.
  • Establishing a digital procurement and contract award process.
  • Support for the implementation and further development of BI and ERP systems for the finance department (currently using DATEV).
Leadership and Development
  • Providing professional and managerial leadership to the finance team of approximately five people.
  • Further developing processes, systems and standards.
  • Working closely with the Management Board, specialist departments and external funding bodies such as the European Commission.

Your Profile

  • A degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or a comparable qualification.
  • Several years’ professional and managerial experience in finance and accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, bookkeeping, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills, as well as the ability to interact confidently with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Very good knowledge of ERP, BI and reporting systems, as well as Microsoft Excel.
  • Business-fluent German and very good English.

Information on fixed-term contracts

The post is a permanent position and is available on a full-time basis (40 hours per week) or on a part-time basis (at least 32 hours per week).
